In the article “Things to know before you go!”, written by an online travel insurance company, my attention is drawn to my neglect of forward planning and preparation when I go away on holiday. After reading this article, NO MORE! It’s silly to go away without taking out proper insurance to protect your family and yourself.
Before you go away on holiday, make sure you have an EHIC card. This is your European Health Insurance Card which will cover you for health treatment while abroad. You may still have to contribute to your medical care and in some countries, this card doesn’t cover you. There are however about 60 European countries that the UK has a health care reciprocal arrangement, so with this, you are pretty well protected. Beware of travelling in the USA without travel insurance to cover medical expenses. If something goes wrong over there and you don’t have insurance, you could end up in financial ruin! Scary stuff!!!
To avoid disaster on holiday, you should first of all produce a list of phone numbers of insurance people, credit card companies and mobile phone providers, in case of anything going wrong. You can’t always wait ill you get home to report lost and stolen items. Make sure you have your EHIC card or adequate travel insurance cover if someone needs hospital treatment and finally, leave your details with the people you have entrusted with the job of looking out for your house. You can now relax!
